Non-Accessible Content
Some of trivago’s websites are not fully accessible yet. For each of the supported assistive technology we have noted the following topics that are on our roadmap to be fixed as a matter of priority:
Keyboard Usage
- Some controls are not fully keyboard operable on the homepage, including the date pickers to select arrival and departure times in the main search and the filters for preferred locations.
- The keyboard focus indicator is still inconsistently applied across the website, making it more difficult to navigate with a keyboard without additional tools to modify the page styles.
- A “keyboard trap” exists on the search results page when reviewing details in the hotel information and tabbing through the offers of similar hotels, forcing keyboard-only users to reload the page.
- Many tool tips are not keyboard operable yet.
Screen Readers
- Some elements on the site still have no or an incorrect accessible label, making understanding more difficult for screen reader users. These still include:
- the “Close” buttons in various dialogs,
- the “Back to top” button on the search results pages,
- the “Pet friendly” checkbox in the “Guests and rooms” selection in the main hotel/destination search feature,
- a rating button in the expanded hotel information,
- some bar chart buttons in the “Price trend” section,
- accordion buttons for the “Property type” filter in the search results, and
- in mobile view, the filter button to open result filters in the header.
- The label for the destination search field rotates rapidly between three different texts, causing disruption and making the search function difficult to use.
- Some elements do not properly convey their state or value to screen readers yet. This includes the show/hide password button on the login and account pages.
- On the homepage in the 'Hot hotel deals right now' section, some content is still incorrectly hidden from screen reader users. Depending on the environment and mode of navigation, some information may not be available for screen reader users.
- In the header, a popup appears that is out of the visual focus order and is difficult to interact with using a keyboard or a screen reader.
Visual Accessibility
- When changing a password in “account settings”, the “password requirements” text fails color contrast requirements. This makes the text difficult to read for users with low vision or color blindness, potentially hindering their ability to understand and meet password criteria.
Other lower-impact issues are also noted and will be addressed as part of our remediation efforts.
